From biting off Evander Holyfield’s ear to beating up a passenger on a plane, the former heavyweight champion has always been a headline grabber.
However, when he’s not stirring up outrage in the media, Tyson seems to have developed a rather expensive pastime.
Speaking on his podcast, the aptly named ‘Hotboxin’’, Tyson had a guess at his monthly expenditure on cannabis.
Fans of the former fighter went back through the archives to listen to an episode from 2019 in which Tyson asks his co-host (former NFL player Ebon Britton) how much weed the pair get through, to which Britton replies: ‘We smoke 10 tons of weed at the ranch a month’. That would set the duo back an approximate $40,000 every single month.
Tyson has developed such a liking for the drug that he recently started his own cannabis company, Tyson Ranch, in California.
The former ‘baddest man on the planet’ admitted that he also has a weakness for magic mushrooms, with the psychedelics numbing any pain caused by the punches of former world champion Roy Jones Jr in their exhibition fight in 2020.
It isn’t uncommon for names in the public eye to go public about their smoking habits – particularly in states in America where cannabis has been legalised.
Rapper Snoop Dogg appeared to imply that he spends upwards of $50,000 a year employing a full-time joint roller. Stars like Lil Wayne and Seth Rogen, famous for their penchant for smoking weed, have both followed Tyson into the cannabis sales market.
